Growing up, I spent weekends at our family’s lake home, exploring the outdoors from morning to night. A local dog became my constant companion, forming a bond so strong that her owner knew where to find her every weekend. This connection with animals sparked a lifelong passion for their care and well-being.

My husband and I began fostering animals during the COVID-19 pandemic after adopting our first dog, Lambsie. When we learned she needed a companion, we welcomed Valkie Lawless into our home. Tragically, Lambsie passed due to undiagnosed diabetes, a loss that deepened our commitment to helping animals in need. Since then, we’ve fostered numerous dogs, including challenging cases—rambunctious, scared, or sick animals—working with three shelters and nonprofits. Our fosters, like Meshadi (the shedder), Rockie (our “foster failure” turned Punkie), and Papa Pupsie, have taught us the importance of providing love and safety to every animal.

 

Our Mission

Pawla’s Pets is dedicated to rescuing and caring for animals in need, including dogs, rabbits, and ducks. Our backyard is becoming a nonprofit kennel to provide a safe haven for animals, especially those abandoned or facing euthanasia. We aim to create a space where animals can thrive, with ample room to roam and play.

 

Our Vision

To expand our impact, we’re transforming our backyard into a fully equipped sanctuary. We need:

• Improved fencing to allow multiple dogs from different shelters to play safely together.

• Kennels for secure nighttime housing.

• Enhanced habitats for rabbits and ducks, including safe spaces for them to raise their young.

• Supplies to support the unique needs of each animal.

 

With these upgrades, Pawla’s Pets will provide a nurturing environment for animals who need it most, ensuring they live with dignity and joy while we find them loving forever homes.

 

Why We Do This

Every animal deserves a chance to feel safe and loved. From our first rescue, a sad and abandoned dog, to the rabbits we’ve taken in, we’ve seen the transformative power of care. Despite losses due to our backyard’s exposure to predators, we’re committed to creating a secure space to save as many animals as possible.
